The Parque de las Ciencias

The Parque de las Ciencias is a 70,000 m² interactive science museum, located within a few minutes’ walk of the historic centre of Granada. Since its inauguration in 1995, it has been the most visited museum in Andalusia. With over 16 million visitors, the museum has become an international reference centre for the popularisation of science in southern Europe. It is open year-round, from Tuesday to Sunday, and offers activities and exhibitions for all audiences.

It is managed by a Public Consortium formed by the Andalusian Regional Government; the Granada City Council; the Granada Provincial Council; the University of Granada; and the Higher Council for Scientific Research.

Seven permanent exhibition pavilions, 5,000 m² of temporary exhibitions, the Digital Planetarium, the BioDome, the Cultural Gallery, the Library, the Cinemas, the Auditorium, the Windows to Science, and 27,000 m² of green areas are some of its spaces. These spaces explore a range of subjects, including health, the environment, architecture, literature, physics, chemistry, mechanics, and astronomy. Its activities include developing international projects (both research and exhibition production) and serving as the Spanish headquarters of the European Space Agency’s European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO – ESA).

In addition, from January 2023, the Parque de las Ciencias is committed to R&D&I in science communication and has promoted a line of study specializing in education and dissemination to implement innovative strategies to promote scientific culture among the public. The generation of knowledge is the objective of this new area with which the museum, through its unit for scientific culture and innovation, comprehensively addresses issues of social interest such as inclusive science, gender equality in science, education for sustainability, or the human dimension of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI).
